Things get Blasphemous

Continuing in the spirit of "singularity" I'm going to mildly criticize one of the "Pillars of Nerdom".  That is, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (or BtVS).  Might I just caution those "newbs" who haven't watched the show that this article will contain major spoilers.
I was recently watching Season Three with VeganZombie when I realized that if the going gets rough, nobody sides with Buffy.  Better yet, nobody believes her when something goes wrong.
The opening of the season leaves Buffy painfully alone, and it's hard to really believe that the other characters feel anything for her emotionally after they neglect her in such a time of need.
Perhaps Buffy's isolation is a sign of Whedon's storytelling genius.  Of course the role of the Slayer is a solitary one, but Buffy has always had the help of her friends and family.
Over time Buffy is isolated from her friends and in turn they from each other. By the end of the seventh season it seems that "The Scooby Gang" is tied together forever with friendship, but are all completely alone.
In this way Whedon paints a picture of reality.  In all our struggles, we must ultimately face them alone.  Perhaps friends will help you conquer the demon, but the choices that you make will haunt you, and only you.
A great example of this is the episode titled Once More with Feeling, or the musical episode of BtVS.  Yet again Buffy is left  to fight her inner demons alone, not wanting to even bother her friends. This way of looking at BtVS is a whole lot more depressing.  However, plenty of evidence links to the contrary, so I could just as easily write an article supporting The Scooby Gang's efforts to help Buffy.
We feel like we've violated the 1st Commandment.  Ah well, in the name of honesty! Of course this article is short and oversimplifies it, but do you agree?

PostCrossing: A Safe Addiction?

In order to best write this article I'm going to have to break the stylistic code of writing in plural and instead slide over into the first person.  It feels like I'm taking a chainsaw to the Mona Lisa, but I'm forging ahead.

For the past two months I've been exchanging postcards with complete and total strangers.  Perhaps it's because I've run out of friends to send cards to, but it's become an addiction.  Like any addiction, it's not without it's rituals.
Every day I check my mailbox.  Unfortunately, my mailbox is the kind where you really have to be at a weird angle to see inside it without unlocking it (a long and arduous process, trust me).  That's how I got a face full of spider webs yesterday....  so it's safe to say that PostCrossing comes with a price.
That's not to mention the cost of stamps.  I've spent over 16 dollars on stamps in the past two months.  If my poor math won't fail me, that's about 100 dollars a year.  Who has that kind of money?  Well, apparently I do.  And that's not even on the cost of postcards.  So we double it, and then we have 200 dollars a year.  Ack!
Let me just stress that none of this matters when you get a new postcard in the mail from a random user.  I've gotten cards from Austria, Belarus, Germany, and Turkey.  It's so satisfing to know that someone somewhere feels just the same way about stationary and postage that you do.
I suppose I could take up drug abuse, or perhaps gambling, but for the time being this seems like a safe enough addiction.

14 Reasons Why We Love Harry Dresden

In honor of the November 27 release of Cold Days (book 14 of The Dresden Files), we are going to provide you with 14 reasons why you should read the works of Jim Butcher.
14. Witty Dialogue
Dresden gets in trouble for talking too much, but frankly that's not something we have a problem with.
13. Gory Fast-paced Action
Blood and guts everywhere!  Only tastefully.  There are some truly hair-raising bits to The Dresden Files which only contribute to the fast and dark pace of the novels.
12. A Dark Past
Believe it or not our favorite wizard is a tortured soul.  However, it's his rise out of "evil" beginnings that truly illustrates his character.
11. A Genuinely "cool" Author
We have a signed copy of Ghost Story, which prompted us to look into the life Jim Butcher.  This guy actually LARPs and otherwise lives the lifestyle that we wish we could.
10. Allusions Galore
We don't know if you like a clever reference as much as the next nerd, but Butcher really does his research in creating an intricate and detailed universe of magic.
9. Steamy Scenes
No complaints here.  Dresden's love life may be complicated, but there is certainly enough interactions between his three great loves to create believable relationships between all of them.
8. Believability
Which brings us to point 8!  In the same way that BtVS ends up being emotionally accessible despite a hard-to-believe-is-real premise,
7. Completely original
Butcher has created a blend of fantasy and mystery novels into Dresden's self-professed career, wizard detective.  There are elements of Sherlock Holmes in Dresden as well as Merlin the wizard.  Fun, witty, pithy, and ultimately noble, while Dresden may have characteristics of other famous protagonists, he remains utterly unique.
6. Unreliable Narrator
This image perfectly sums up the series.  Classical wizard in
front while in the background we have Chicago.  Awesome.
But not entirely good.  There are times when his perception of reality can't entirely be trusted insofar as the reader's perception of the novel goes.
5. Dynamic Characters
All is not what it seems.  Almost all characters are accessible, and no matter how mystical they may be, there is something vaguely "human" in them.
4. Magic!
WE LOVE IT.  By vicariously placing yourself in Dresden's shoes, you have the world of magic at your fingertips.  However, what makes this series so great is that even magic can come at a cost, sometimes the cost is unimaginable.
3. Painful Cliffhangers
We refuse to spoil anything, but we'll just say that there is a moment in the thirteenth book that has us rolling on the floor in anguish and misery.  And then the book ends.
2. The Geekiest Superhero Around
We know what geeky is, and honestly Dresden is full of geek.  Going back to point number 10, Dresden really is everything we want to in a Superhero.  (except for maybe Invincible, but that's a different article)
1. We felt compelled to write this article
We love The Dresden Files so much that we spent the time writing this fairly lengthy article.  Can that speak for itself?

Later on I'll post a picture of my signed copy of Ghost Story.  Prepare to wet your pants.

Why Mass Effect is awesome

Hello everyone, I’m Arcane Aristocrat, here to rant about the latest game I just played. Firstly, a confession : I only played the last two games in the series. I know, ridiculous! But, dear reader, as soon as I return to my beloved PC once term ends in December, I will rectify this great wrong. Nonetheless, I feel entitled to spew out my overwhelming love for the game and the series.

A brief introduction: Mass Effect has more exhilarating action than most action games, places you more firmly in the main character’s shoes than most books, masters characterization far more than most tv series, builds a more incredible world than most fiction, and has an absolutely fantastic plot. Mass Effect made my heart race, peaked my curiosity, swallowed my nights, made me laugh and cry and spend every waking moment playing it.

Now I don’t want to write a massively long blog post, so I will instead split up my adoration for this game into several posts. Firstly, in keeping in tone with the rest of this blog, I will do a list: my favorite 5 characters in Mass Effect – excluding commander Shepard (don’t worry, he/she will have a dedicated blog post).

Top 5 Mass Effect characters

Runner Up: Grunt

Grunt didn’t make the top 5 due to the depth he lacked in compare to most of the characters. Nonetheless, his crude and violent style is both awe-inspiring and hilarious, and few things inspire confidence in combat as a loud roar of “I am Krogan” as Grunt rushes into the fray.

5. Miranda

Miranda is a product of genetic modification, technological improvement, and first class education – engineered to be the mentally and physically perfect  being. Despite all these efforts, or more accurately, because of them, Miranda is racked by the possibility she can’t truly claim any of her achievements for herself, having been given all the right circumstances in advance - the struggle that brings her character to life.

4. Jack

Jack’s type of character is no hallmark of innovation in fictional creations, though she is hardly your typical anti-hero. Pissed off at a world unfair, often falling into uncontrollable rage, and literally bred to be a vicious killing machine, Jack offers the player a broken and unwelcoming character to get closer to. But where her character lacks originality, it is both believable and open to growth. Also, unlike anti-heroes à la Lisbeth Sallander, Jack has the pure physical force to fight her way through those that piss he off. What Jack lacks in stature, she makes up in the pervasive sense anger, power and hurt she emits, that are as real as they are intense.

3. Legion

Simultaneously a part of the Geth consensus and an individual of his own, Legion is perhaps the most original character in the game. Legion, and the Geth, are perhaps surprisingly the most selfless and peacefully-minded inhabitants of the Mass Effect universe. Living in isolation from the other races, desiring nothing but self-determination of not only themselves, but all species, and surprisingly understanding of their vengeful creators, the Quarians, the Geth - and Legion especially - are almost paragons in a chaotic universe, struggling but to live in harmony.

2. Mordin Solus

Dr Mordin Solus is incredibly intelligent by even Salarian standards, and moreover a deadly operative. High-functioning and observant, Mordin always clearly analyses any problem he faces, and carefully - but not coldly - calculates the best course of action. Being part of a team that strengthened the Genophage, rendering more Krogan females infertile, has racked him with guilt, and his struggle to either accept or atone for his actions are some of the most ethically interesting parts of the game. He is also the only important character who has a singing performance – must not be missed!

1. Liara

At the young Asari age of 109, Liara combines the powerful curiosity of a child with the soulful wisdom of an ancient. Where Shepard struggles in a world full of chaos and hate, Liara offers a sense of wonder and courage when neither are apparent. Liara, more than any other character I’ve encountered, shows how vulnerability and softness become a strength and comfort in times of struggle. Perhaps the thing that excites me most about replaying the series starting from ME1, is to play another game with Liara at my side.

Top 5 Hypothetical Career Choices

Sure, you're probably fed up with the lists.  However, they are a riot to write, so we're just going to keep making them.  This is a list of those careers that everybody wants to have, but few have the courage or skill set to actually take up.  Enjoy!

5. Astronaut
At one point in our lives, before the crippling fear of heights set in, we've always wanted to go into outer space.  However, you have to be athletic, not to mention smart, in order to venture into the final frontier.  That certainly takes us out of the running...
If Barbie dolls have taught us anything, it's that one day we too could become a supermodel astronaut.

4. Rock Star
Who would not want to be on stage in front of thousands of adoring fans screaming your name?  Well.... shy people.  But the pure hero-worship associated with being a rock star is quite enough to justify putting in the time to master an instrument.  If only we could play the triangle or the kazoo...
Check out School of Rock by the way for one of the funnier movies of 2000s.

3. Vampire Slayer
She alone will fight against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness.  She is.... the slayer.  As dramatic and horrible as life can be for Buffy Summers, her gig is pretty sweet.  It would be really awesome to actually be able fit into those tight leather pants as well.  Has there ever been a chubby slayer?  Probably not...  although in the most recent season of Buffy comics there has been a gay male slayer, so a chubby one really wouldn't be so much of a stretch.

2. Pirate
Maybe it's just that Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are so darn pretty, but the life of a pirate is one of the top "hypothetical career choices" that so an youngin's choose.  So, shiver me timbers matey and let's set sail!  Or something like that....

1. Ninja
Silent.  Cunning.  Deadly.  Determined.  Covert.  Stealthy.  Sexy.  This one kind of explains itself.

Top 10 Current Cult TV Shows

A cult show, as defined by the writers of Reaver's Digest, is a syndicated program that will maintain and grow viewers long after it's been cancelled.  However, oddly enough, the shows below haven't been cancelled just yet and are in fact still going!  Yay for us!  And before we begin, let's just give kudos to the BBC for funding so many kick-ass shows.

10. Adventure Time with Finn and Jake

Embarrassingly enough I don't know a whole lot about this show outside of what shows up on our tumblr feed, but credit should be given where credit is due.  We've seen a couple of episodes, and from what we can tell it's the most amazing cartoon currently out there.  Relying heavily on absurd one-liners, we wish we spent more time watching this show.

9. Castle
We actually almost forgot this from the list, but thank goodness we didn't!  Rick Castle's nerdy innocence and impossible rock-star status as a writer makes this show one of the most enjoyable on TV.  Nathon Fillion's nerdgod status as Capt. Malcolm Reynolds is one of the reasons we got into Castle in the first place, but we're really glad we stayed.

8. Mad Men
It doesn't hurt that Jon Hamm is so darn sexy, but the versatile cast of Mad Men presents an interesting portrait of life in the 1960's leading into the 1970's.  What gives Mad Men it's cult appeal is not the steamy love life of Don Draper but rather the societal shift that's occurring from episode to episode.  Or at least we'd like to think so...
7. Downton Abbey
PBS's first big show in a long while, Downton Abbey is interesting for a variety of reasons.  In the same way that Mad Men is a snapshot of a lifestyle at a given time, this show similarly illustrates societal change at a pivotal moment (that being roughly WWI).  The success of the show largely rests on the talented cast and drama-saturated episodes.  More please!

6.  Doctor Who
I wasn't sure where to put this one on the ranking, but I decided about on the middle because of the 49 years history.  So technically it isn't a current show in that it's been going on for quite a while, but let's be honest.  Starting with Christopher Eccleston and really picking up with David Tennant, Doctor Who's most recent 7 seasons have completely changed the way that people view this show.  Even more so, Hipster Doctor Matt Smith has further made this show accessible and even fashionable for all audiences!  Yay BBC!

5. Portlandia
Produced by Lorne Michaels and starring comedians Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, this delightful "reality" TV show has revitalized short skits.  Keeping up with the absurdist trend, this comedy is so enjoyable because of that subtle realization that deep down the skits are based on a little bit of real life in Portland, Oregon.  Does this alarm us?  A little bit.  Mostly we are just too busy laughing.

4.  Merlin
For the sake of space and what we're sure is your dwindling lack on interest, we'd like to just refer you to our previous article Merlinated: How I Became Bewitched.  To sum that article up.... blissfully cheesy show wrought with delightfully witty dialogue and easily lovable characters.  (Thanks to the BBC for continuing this one)

3. Sherlock

The further down this list we go the more recognizable the cult favorite.  BBC (again) has worked with Stephen Moffat to create a fast-paced detective thriller which reinterprets the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in such a way as to leave fans of his original works feeling as if they are members of Doyle's inner circle, albeit modern-day.  There are just enough similarities between Doyle's original works and the BBC's modern adaption that to figure out the updated culprit to the crime is both a challenge and a thrill.
2. 30 Rock
Just to remind our readers, the act of making lists is overall a highly subjective "art", and therefore certain items get preferential treatment.  In a year however, 30 Rock wouldn't have made this list as it's currently on it's last season ever.  With 20-plus episodes to a season and nearly seven seasons, there are enough episodes to fit in geeky references both obvious and obscure.  We've seen every episode about 4 or 5 times, so for us 30 Rock makes the top of the list, but not quite....

1. Game of Thrones
Oddly enough, we're pretty angry that we have to put Game of Thrones here.  However, we have to give credit where credit is due.  George R.R. Martin's intricate and fast paced fantasy world is the modern day equivalent of Tolkien.  The Game of Thrones television series has done for fantasy what The Lord of the Rings movies first did for the entire genre.  It gave the general public something that they could truly enjoy, usually something reserved for only the hardest of hard core geeks.  Therefore, we have to place Game of Thrones first in that it's effects will be felt for quite some time..

Small side note:  I'm eagerly awaiting Joss Whedon's S.H.E.I.L.D..  I think that it might really be something special, but it's too early even for speculation.  Have a great weekend!

10 Influential Geeks (and why!)

These are by no means the 10 most important geeks of all time, but they are still good people to know.  While you might not think you can place everybody on the list, be prepared to be surprised just how far these geek's nerdish tenticles sink into society.

10.  Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy
Sure, maybe she's too goodlooking to be considered a geek, but that's kind of the point.  What SMG did was show that even if you were really pretty and nice, if you happen to slay demons on the side the popular kids still wouldn't give you the time of day.  Additionally, SMG really made me feel for her character.  Upon first glance, BtVS is full of fantasy and fiction, but we've found that as far as metaphors for life go, BtVS's long run has covered a lot of life's problems.  A lot of this accesibility comes from SMG's performance.

9. Chris Hardwick
Hardwick's influence on the geek world is a little bit more subtle, if not farther reaching.  By hosting The Nerdist Podcast on a weekly basis, Hardwick is living out the dream.  Every week he sees another celebrity guest, from The Muppets to Sir Patrick Stewart to Tina Fey, we find ourselves desperately wishing we were in his shoes.  The great thing about Hardwick though is that he knows how lucky he is to be talking to such amazing, and his humility is one of the reasons we keep listening.

8.  Seth Green
Most people either know Seth Green for his role as Oz the Werewolf from BtVS or as Dr. Evil's son in Austin Powers.  However, Green's role in the nerd community has been influential, and not only for his role in Robot Chicken.  He's also done a lot of voice work for television, such as Batman Beyond.  The more you know about him the more you realize that he really has done a little bit of everything. Less well known is his extensive collection of action figures.  Trust us.  It's impressive.

7.  Weird Al
Credit must be given where credit is due.  Weird Al "revolutionized" the parody of music videos in the clever blend of word play and generally pleasing to listen to songs.  His older work is full of hilarious puns.  Our personal favorite, Amish Paradise.

6.  Christopher Reeve's Superman
Arguably (and boy, are we ready to argue) Superman 1979 was the first beginning in a shift in the way the world saw superheroes.  Reeve gave a depth to the character that extended Superman's appeal outside of comic books and into the hearts of the audience members.  Personally, we've been watching these films since we were toddlers.

5.  Lorne Michaels
Five zloty says you don't know who this guy is.  Lorne Michaels is the creative genius behind SNL and currently produces comedy gold like Portlandia. This guy's net worth is about $350 million dollars.  Look him up sometime and be amazed at how influential this guy has been in the comedy world.  Plus, enjoy this fun letter.

4.  Christopher Nolan
Like us, you probably couldn't pick out Nolan from a line-up of men to save your life, but his name has shot to fame with such films as Batman Begins and Inception.  Any movie linked to his name really gets us excited because we know that it's going to be a sophistated rollercoaster ride, complete with amazing soundtracks by Hans Zimmer.  We love his use of a fast pace to keep the audience engaged.  Plus, the subtle undertones of something of greater psychological or political significance couldn't hurt.  Not to forget the explosions.  Never forget the explosions.
"I don't really think it's fair for me to be
on Jury duty because I'm a hologram."

3.  Tina Fey
Although Lorne Michaels should probably go in front on Tina Fey since he was the one to hire her to SNL in the first place, Fey has a special place in our hearts. As avid die-hard fans of 30 Rock, Tina Fey has given nerds the greatest gift of all time.  (No, Muppet fans, not ice cream or children) but laughter.  Her role as Liz Lemon has given us hope that maybe one day we might achieve the same level of workplace noteriety that she comprises.

2.  Alfred Hitchcock

If you haven't had the viewing pleasure of watching the works of Hitchcock you really should use your chubby fingers to go over to YouTube and search up some of his short films.  Better yet (and if you have time) you really should watch Psycho.  His use of the camera to direct the viewer's vision, as well as his unparalled creation of suspense is one of the reasons that Hitchcock's work is timeless and revolutionary.  Now get those fingers typing!!

1.  Joss Whedon
Every list begins and ends with the Whedon.  Does the creator of Buffy, Firefly, Angel, Dollhouse, Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog, or the new release Much Ado About Nothing need any description?  No.  His awesomeness oozes off of him in obvious waves of badassitude.  If you can't see then you must be blind. Unless you actually are blind, in which case you obviously can't be held accountable...  but still appreciate The Whedon.

Our Top 5 Favorite Space "Crews"

In honor of the 10th anniversary of the release of Firefly (yesterday), we present you with our top five favorite space captains and their crew!

5.  Doctor Who, the TARDIS, and His Companions

The Doctor and Amy Pond looking like they just might fall over.
If we take the TARDIS (extra points to those who know what the mnemonic for that is) as a living being, then we can hardly call it a spaceship.  However, for all intents and purposes we're just going to assume that the TARDIS really is a ship.  Albeit alive...  the Doctor's adventures through time and space, thanks to the genius writing of cult-favorite Stephen Moffat, are consistently a joy and a pleasure to watch.  However, David Tennant could always move me emotionally and I've yet to see Matt Smith work up such a moving performance.  Here's to another 50 years of Doctor Who!

4.  Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the Millennium Falcon

Considering the relatively poor shape of the Millennium Falcon's lightspeed, it's a bit of a stretch to assume that Han and his Wookie could operate this great ship by themselves.  However, as far as badass captains go, these space mercenaries make the cut.  As far as emotional development and character growth goes in the universe of Star Wars, perhaps Han Solo makes some of the biggest leaps and bounds as far as caring for other human beings (and aliens) goes.

3. Darth Vader, his Storm Troopers, and the Death Star

Darth Vader.  Bad ass mo-fo.
While I'm well aware that we've just put another Star Wars crew ahead of this one, let alone the leader of the Dark Side of the Force, let us remind you why Darth Vader kicks so much ass.  His entire crew lives in anxious agony, unsure of whether or not they will be choked to death on any given day.  Besides, who doesn't get nerdish goosebumps of pure joy when Darth Vader first walks down the hallways surrounded by Storm Troopers?

2.  Admiral Adama, Battlestar Gallactica, and Crew

One of many meaningful glances and looks, courtesy of Admiral Adama.
Rewatching the miniseries for Battlestar Gallactica was one of the more painful experiences that I've had television-wise.  The journey that the entire crew embarks upon is one that is so dynamic that to compare the first episode to the last just asks for tears.  The cast is so broad and the crew of the Battlestar so extensive that it's impossible to single out a couple of our favorite crewmen.

1.  Captain Malcolm Reynolds
and the
Crew of the Spaceship Serenity

It seems that every great list ends with Joss Whedon.  The complexity and dexterity of the nine cast members of Firefly makes this the ultimate space ship.  To sum up in three words... cowboys in space.  Captain Malcolm Reynolds is governed by a set of principles all based upon the protection of his crew and his kind.  The only thing wrong with this show is that we couldn't get enough of them.  Darn thee, Fox!

Just some "big damn heroes".

FIREFLY 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Greetings my fellow underlings!!!! Kneel before me!!! No, I forgot to tell you, in this blog, we're all equal and your input would be much appreciated :). And now to the big news, Today is Firefly's Tenth Anniversary and we should treat this day as more of a Remembrance Day rather than toss it aside and take it for granted.

Merlinated: How I Became Bewitched

From the moment when Richard Wilson begins by dramatically saying, in a land of myth and a time of magic.... until John Hurt concludes the episode by whispering, Merlin, I am absolutely hooked.
Described elsewhere as a show that "adults love despite themselves", I'd rather describe Merlin as something of a poorly missed and desperately needed anomaly in modern television shows.  I believe that it's cheesey, with a purpose.
Casting a spell on the viewer.  Perhaps it is...
A LOVE SPELL????
Ahhh I just love you.
The show so cleverly satisfies every pillar of nerdom.  It's camp at it's finest.  Admittedly there are rare moments, due to an otherwise blissfully awkward dialogue, that are slightly unbearable to watch.  However, in every episode I find myself deeply caring for these characters.  Perhaps the success of Merlin is that while the show doesn't take itself so seriously, the audience is surprised when they find themselves doing just that.
I've been personally surprised by a lot of the performances as well.  Obviously Anthony Head (Giles!!!) commands the screen, but the pluckiness of the lead character (Colin Morgan) and his innocent and honest portrayal of a young Merlin is one of the reasons that I keep coming back to this show.  Additionally, I've really been impressed with the way that the Powers that Be have portrayed Morgana and Mordred as well.  The battle over magic is one that continues to develop with the question of what is right or ethical in a world full of persecution and secrets.
And let's be honest.  Prince Arthur really is just beautiful.

Staying Informed

One of the “big problems” that an average nerd can face, besides whether or not to stand by Marvel or DC, is where to get up-to-date information about geek news.   That’s why I’m here!  And there was much rejoicing! For those too lazy to spend half an hour surfing the web, I’m going to break it down by writing about my top 3 favorite sources.

This is a very reliable and well updated source for all things related to geekdom.  No matter how small, I bet they will have a report.  Good as a starting point in the collection of news, but I’ve found the articles a bit hard to read at times if not incredibly well informed!  Summing up: good to start here.  Younger audiences: keep in mind that out of all my sources, this has the most profanity.  So user beware.

This is my personal favorite site.  While they don’t update quite as frequently as I’d like, they definitely have perhaps the funniest and thoroughly nerdily obscure references.  Perhaps I’m biased, but the managers and writers of the site keep me informed on issues that I really like.  So overall, while Ain’t It Cool might be a better source for all-over geekiness, nothing trumps this quirky website.

Having established in our first post that Joss Whedon is essentially God, this website is the best source for obsessively updated snippets of everything that Whedon may ever have touched (even briefly).  Updated round the clock internationally, if something happens in the Whedon world, you’ll find it here.  This was a great source during the Avengers release, and continues to be my go-to source for all things Whedon.

And if you can’t find something here the internet is a big place, my friend.  I’m leaving the video game website/source list to my bro, so await his post eagerly!

The 10 Commandments of Nerdy

1.  You shall have no other gods before Joss Whedon.

2.  Thou shalt feel welcome to create a carved image, or any likeness of anything that could be considered nerdy.

3.  Thou shalt not take the name of Chuck Norris in vain, for the Chuck will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

4. Remember the premier date of your favorite show, and keep yourself unoccupied during that day so as not to miss such important events.

5.  Honor thy mother and father, for without them who will purchase your games?

6.  You shall not murder those not zombies.

7.  Thou shalt not commit nerdish adultery by watching such shows as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”

8.  Thou shalt not steal the creative ideas of other nerds.

9.  Thou shall not not illegally download videos.

10.  Though shalt not covet thy neighbor’s Minecraft house, nor your neighbor’s Sim wife, or his iPod, or his Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection, or anything that is your neighbor’s.
